Semi-Annual Clean-up Scheduled MAY 2018

Schaap Sanitation will be picking up the junk set out at the curb. They will also pick up items, such as kitchen or laundry appliances, microwaves, water heaters, A/C’s, humidifiers, furnaces, etc. at a cost of $20.00 each. Some items such as Flat screen or tube TV’s, and computers, will cost $25.00 each, and small household printers are $10.00. PAID IN ADVANCE. STICKERS CAN BE PURCHASED AT CITY HALL, THE CORNER POCKET/LIQUOR STORE, AND THE CURRIE STATE BANK.

PLEASE DO NOT PUT ANY JUNK ON THE CURB PRIOR TO A WEEK BEFORE May 6th, IF POSSIBLE.

NO grass clippings, leaves, garden materials, branches, tires, rocks, concrete, sheet rock, dirt, or hazardous waste items will be picked up. Refrigerators and freezers must be free of food or debris or they will not be picked up.
(For demolition projects please get a “Roll Away” from Schaap’s Sanitation.)

Any resident, with more than two yards of junk set out on the curb, will be charged extra, as recorded by Schaap Sanitation.

REMINDER: THIS DATE IS NOT TO BE USED FOR REGULAR GARBAGE THAT DID NOT GET SET OUT ON A WEEKLY BASIS, BUT FOR OTHER ITEMS THAT YOU WANT TO GET RID OF. REGULAR GARBAGE WILL NOT BE PICKED UP. IF YOUR WEEKLY GARBAGE DOES NOT FIT IN YOUR CONTAINER, THEN YOU NEED TO GET A LARGER GARBAGE CONTAINER TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR WEEKLY GARBAGE.
As an alternative to paying Schaap Sanitation to pick up the items listed above,
you can take the items yourself to:
Green Earth at 306 Broadway Ave. in Lakefield, MN. They have reduced prices.
All appliances are $15.00, Flat screen TV’s $5.00, and Computers-no charge.
They would also take anything with scrap metal, any small, plug-in appliances, and bicycles. They do not take TV’s with a tube.

ALL DOG OWNERS MUST KEEP THEIR DOGS FROM BARKING UNNECESSARILY OR CONSTANTLY. THIS IS ANNOYING AND THE CITY HAS GOTTEN MANY COMPLAINTS.

As you Maintain Your Lawn, please do not allow any debris such as grass clippings, twigs, and leaves to get into the streets and washed down to the drains.
The Okabena Summer Recreation will be starting up again in June. We have two applicants for the coaching position and hope that there will some interest in helping to organize the concession stand.
The Maintenance Department will be flushing hydrants in May. Please watch for posted notices.

If you have abandoned property, please note the regulations in the following ordinance and remove those items in a timely manner, or let the city officials know of your intentions.

ORDINANCE NO. 33 REGULATING ABANDONED PROPERTY
Purpose. Abandoned Motor vehicles, abandoned appliances, discarded furniture, and junk constitute (a) a hazard to the health and welfare of the people of the City…………………..
A. “Abandoned motor vehicle” is (a) an unlicensed motor vehicle; (b) a motor vehicle lacking vital component parts, including motor vehicles with pioneer, classic car, collector or street rod license; (c) a motor vehicle which is in an inoperable condition, including motor vehicles with pioneer, classic car, collector or street rod license; (d) a motor vehicle of more than 48 hours on public property illegally; (e) a motor vehicle which has remained on private property for more than 48 hours without the consent of the person in control of such property; or (f) a motor vehicle voluntarily surrendered…….
D. “Discarded furniture” means an item of furniture originally intended for use within the interior of a building but left or stored out-of-doors.
Public Property: No person shall park, store, leave or permit the parking, storing or leaving of any abandoned motor vehicle or parts thereof, abandoned appliance, or discarded furniture of any kind, whether attended or not, upon any public property within the City.
Private Property: No person owning, in charge of, or in control of any real property within the City, whether as owner, tenant, occupant, lessee or otherwise, shall allow any abandoned motor vehicle, abandoned appliance, or discarded furniture of any kind to remain on such property longer than ninety-six (96) hours.
A. Notice to Remove: Whenever it comes to the attention of the police department that any person has any abandoned motor vehicle, abandoned appliance, or discarded furniture, on his property, a notice in writing shall be served upon such person requesting the removal thereof in the time specified in this ordinance.
B. Responsibility for Removal: Upon proper notice, an owner of the abandoned motor vehicle, abandoned appliance, or discarded furniture………………….
C. Notice procedure: The police department shall give notice of removal to the owner or occupant………………….
D. Content of notice: The notice shall contain the request for removal within ten (10) days…………………. the resident shall be subject to the cost of removal plus a $100 fine.
Penalty: Any person who violates the provision of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. Each day shall constitute a separate and distinct violation.
